On the morning of Sunday 7th June, something very special will take place once again in the town of Guamasa. The traditional pilgrimage in honour of San Isidro Labrador will be celebrated anew this year.
A Vibrant Celebration
Guamasa, as described by Elizabeth Murray in the 19th century during a festive day of boat racing, will regain its vibrant spirit. The annual festivities will fill the roads leading to the church with a multicoloured procession of our essence and traditions.
The streets will echo with the sounds of guitars and timple, accompanied by fine voices that immortalise the Canarian folk songs. Dressed in traditional attire, groups will weave and unwind the dances of the islands.
Culinary Delights
The Guamasa pilgrimage on this second Sunday of June will offer visitors typical island products, such as potatoes and gofio. Traditional dishes will include the renowned ‘papa arrugada’—a delicious treat for the palate—along with beautiful, melon-shaped, pink, white, or black potatoes, all served with salted fish and green mojo sauce, accompanied by a good clarete wine from Garimba, lovingly preserved by local farmers for this special day.
