Puerto de la Cruz sees significant drop in crime rates
In 2025, Puerto de la Cruz recorded a 13.56% decrease in crime rates compared to the previous year, according to data released by the City Council. This reduction is attributed to enhanced public safety measures and improvements in the resources available to the Local Police.
Increased Investment in Policing
The governing body of Puerto de la Cruz, comprised of CC, PP, and ACP, allocated over €600,000 to the police force. This funding facilitated the acquisition of six new motorcycles and the hiring of two additional officers. The new vehicles will enhance preventive surveillance, traffic regulation, and the ability to respond effectively in areas with high pedestrian, commercial, and tourist traffic.
With these initiatives, the northern Tenerife city aims to establish a more accessible, agile, and effective security model for both residents and visitors.
Commitment to Public Safety
The Mayor and head of the Public Safety department, Leopoldo Afonso (PP), emphasized that “this evolution confirms the effectiveness of the municipal strategy regarding prevention, proximity, and police response. Puerto de la Cruz is an open, vibrant, and tourist-friendly city, which is precisely why safety is an absolute priority,” he stated.
