Tenerife’s South Hospital Set for Major Expansion
The Canarian Health Service has awarded a contract for the redesign and refurbishment of Tenerife’s South Hospital, affiliated with the Universitary Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. The project will cost €1,097,245 and is expected to take ten months to complete.
This initial phase aims to produce a technical plan for the renovation and expansion, allowing construction to begin. The upgrades are set to enhance the hospital’s capacity and the quality of care provided to residents in the area.
Key improvements will include finishing two existing structural modules, establishing new units for Critical Care and Haemodynamics, and enhancing surgical facilities alongside the expansion of A&E, outpatient consultations, and imaging services. A new infrastructure will also improve the hospital’s overall connectivity and efficiency.
Following a recent boost in the hospital’s services, the Canarian authorities highlighted the introduction of a Palliative Care Unit, alongside early intervention services for children under six in the southern region. The hospital has also recently added new techniques for treating bladder and breast cancer.
Furthermore, over the past two years, the South Hospital has integrated essential services—including a Laboratory and Hospital Pharmacy—while enhancing diagnostic capabilities with a new scanner that reduces patient transfers to La Candelaria Hospital for tests and treatments.
