Coalición Canaria Accuses PSOE of Prioritising Revenue Over Family Protection
Coalición Canaria (CC) in Adeje has slammed the local PSOE government for prioritising revenue collection over the welfare of families after rejecting proposals to ease the burden of a new refuse tax. The party claims the approved ordinance will lead to a 26% increase in costs for residents.
CC had suggested measures including a 12% reduction for residents, discounts for large families, and financial aid of up to 90% for vulnerable individuals. They argue these initiatives aimed to amend what they consider an unjust regulation.
CC candidate Patricia León expressed disappointment in the PSOE’s dismissal of proposals designed to protect Adeje’s taxpayers. She accused the local government of shifting the financial burden onto citizens due to rising waste from tourism activities.
León contended that Adeje families should not be penalised for waste they did not generate, advocating for a fairer distribution of service costs. CC also proposed that those generating more waste should pay more, thus acknowledging the impact of tourism on waste management.
Nationalist councillor Aythami Amaro criticized PSOE for missing an opportunity to show understanding towards the local population. He condemned their rejection of tax reductions for residents and support for families in need, emphasising that the raised rates unfairly impact those living in Adeje.
Amaro concluded that the linear increase disregards the community’s reality, as residents bear the costs while tourism continues to thrive.
