The Granadilla de Abona Town Council is offering a municipal plot of over 2,300 square metres in Los Hinojeros to construct a new court. The mayor, José Domingo Regalado, stated that this proposal could help resolve ongoing discussions about potentially merging the Granadilla and Arona courts.
The local government believes the new facility would provide modern, functional infrastructure tailored to the needs of both the community and justice professionals. This initiative follows a recent visit by regional president Fernando Clavijo and deputy justice and security minister Cesáreo Rodríguez.
The area in question is designated as suitable for development under the current General Plan, allowing for a building of up to 7,000 square metres and a height of 15 metres. Its central location offers good accessibility and connectivity to serve not only Granadilla but also San Miguel de Abona, Vilaflor de Chasna, Arico, and Fasnia.
The next step involves assessments by Canary Islands government technicians, after which plans for the judicial infrastructure will be finalised.
Granadilla de Abona currently has over 70,000 residents and, along with its judicial partners, serves a population exceeding 110,000. The council is committed to maintaining and modernising the judiciary system in the area through the new courthouse, addressing current and future needs.
