The President of the La Gomera Island Council, Casimiro Curbelo, has expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela and committed to supporting citizens affected by the country’s crisis, particularly the Gomera community residing there.
In a statement, Curbelo highlighted his ongoing communication with the Asociación Benéfico Cultural Isla de La Gomera, the key organisation for the Gomera community in Venezuela. He aims to gather information on family situations, ensuring appropriate support measures can be mobilised if required.
“Venezuela is part of La Gomera’s family history. We have many ties with this country, and in difficult times, we must be close to those who need us,” Curbelo stated, emphasising the strong solidarity of the Gomera people.
He added, “We will remain vigilant and in contact with our residents, ready to contribute to the recovery and well-being of those who need it most.”
Curbelo is also in touch with the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, to coordinate information and assess potential actions from Canary institutions.
“We are closely monitoring developments and are fully prepared to assist in any way that alleviates the plight of those affected,” he concluded.
