Chiringuito Bollullo: A Hidden Gem in La Orotava

Nestled between banana plantations and the waves of the Atlantic, Chiringuito Bollullo has become a popular spot in northern Tenerife. Located near El Bollullo beach, a known local treasure, this eatery has earned a Solete from the Repsol Guide, which recognises its authenticity and charm rather than luxury.

El Bollullo beach, in the El Rincón area of La Orotava, features striking black volcanic sand, cliffs, and strong waves that highlight the Atlantic’s presence. Surrounded by agricultural land, it offers a refreshing contrast to the bustling tourist hotspots in the south, making the chiringuito a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

The menu at Chiringuito Bollullo centres on fresh seafood and traditional Canarian recipes. Dishes include lapas, octopus salad, squid, mussels, and garlic prawns, alongside Canarian staples like papas arrugadas with mojo and Spanish omelette. One standout dish is the daily fresh fish served with Canarian potatoes for €17.90, while a seafood paella is offered at €14.50 per person.

The Solete recognition has boosted its popularity further among those seeking genuine, laid-back dining experiences. With only a short walk to a picturesque volcanic beach stretching around 200 metres long, diners enjoy stunning sea views and the lively atmosphere as people flock to soak up the sun.

Affordability is another draw of Chiringuito Bollullo, where average spending ranges from €20 to €30 for a meal. The relaxed, unpretentious beach vibe adds to its allure, providing simple dishes and remarkable scenery that turn any meal into a delightful escape.

To reach Chiringuito Bollullo, head to Camino El Bollullo, 113, La Orotava. It opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Visitors can enjoy a short staircase walk from the car park through the banana fields, or embark on a scenic 45-minute coastal route from Puerto de la Cruz. This path offers breathtaking views, making it an ideal outing for those combining a lovely stroll, beach time, and delectable food.
