Firefighters Deal with Over Thirty Fires Linked to San Juan Celebrations in Tenerife
Fire crews in Tenerife were called out on Tuesday evening to tackle more than thirty fires, primarily caused by uncontrolled bonfires during the San Juan festival. Most incidents occurred in metropolitan areas, including Candelaria, Los Realejos, and Guía de Isora.
Earlier that day, at 10:20 a.m., firefighters from the Güímar station responded to a vehicle fire reported by the Tenerife Emergency Coordination Centre at Las Eras in Fasnia. They quickly extinguished the blaze with assistance from local police.
Shortly after 5:15 a.m. the next day, firefighters from Santa Cruz were activated to manage another vehicle fire on Miguel Zerolo Fuentes Street.
On Monday night, Icod de los Vinos firefighters were called out around 11:20 p.m. to control a bonfire that had spread in Los Silos, near Camino El Polvillo. The same team also assisted the Canary Emergency Service around 4:00 p.m. in evacuating a resident who may have suffered a hip fracture, using a rope system to lower the individual safely from the building’s rooftop.
