Major Overhaul Planned for Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 24 June – The Council of the Tenerife Cabildo has approved a comprehensive redevelopment plan for the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium. The plan outlines four phases, including a new exterior layer, an increase in spectator capacity to over 25,000, and an investment ranging from €26 million to €33 million.
Currently, several projects have already begun, with over 30 actions completed at a cost of €10 million. These include new seating, structural reinforcement to prevent collapses, additional emergency staircases, and upgrades to electrical and plumbing services, enhancing water pressure in the restrooms.
The Cabildo also aims to improve the fire safety system, construct two large video screens for €700,000, and renovate three dressing rooms alongside the press room, effectively adding over 500 square metres of space.
Enhancements to signage and club branding will feature along corridors and the exterior, highlighted by a new stainless steel mesh costing €6.9 million, which will incorporate lighting and the club’s iconic white cross symbol.
Urban Development Improvements
The Cabildo has indicated potential plans to slightly increase capacity by elevating the Anfiteatro and Herradura stands, as well as covering them with a roof.
While there are currently no plans for a new stadium due to land availability issues that may last until 2040, there is a proposal to work with the City Council on urban transformation. This includes burying Avenida de San Sebastián to create a pedestrian area linking to Parque Viera y Clavijo and renovating the plaza behind the Anfiteatro.
