Drago Verdes Canarias has formally submitted a request to the La Laguna Town Hall calling for the suspension of an eviction scheduled for June 26 in Geneto, affecting a family in extreme vulnerability.
The mother suffers from chronic bilateral ischaemia in her lower limbs, which prevents her from working, and she is currently in the process of applying for disability support. Additionally, the household includes her father, an elderly person, and her daughter, a girl under 10 years old diagnosed on the autism spectrum.
Moreover, the woman has been a victim of both physical and psychological domestic violence, which persisted until she formally reported it to the National Police on May 17, 2026.
Given the mother’s inability to work and the lengthy process of her disability application, the family has been unable to continue paying the rent for their home.
The Request from Drago Verdes Canarias
In light of this situation, Carmen Peña, a councillor representing Drago Verdes Canarias, submitted a formal letter to the La Laguna Town Hall on Monday, June 15, outlining the family’s circumstances and primarily requesting the suspension of the eviction.
Peña stated after the submission, “With Drago Verdes Canarias’s representation in the La Laguna Town Hall, we will do everything within our power to prevent or alleviate such dramatic situations.” She added that “we are conscious of the precariousness faced by Canary Islanders in their daily lives, and institutions must be there to provide support and solutions.”
Specifically, the document calls on the La Laguna Town Hall’s governing team—composed of the PSOE and Coalición Canaria—to “send the relevant social vulnerability report to the court, requesting the suspension of this eviction.”
Additionally, in the absence of this report, the governing team is urged to “take all necessary actions to ensure that this family receives decent housing as quickly as possible, thereby preventing further psychosocial deterioration of the family unit.”
Furthermore, concerning the family’s serious psychosocial situation, it has been requested that “institutions and entities providing assistance to the family coordinate to maximise the efficiency of public resources and ensure proper support.” Additionally, “the Social Welfare department should provide social assistance that activates all necessary social protection measures to address the family’s circumstances in a timely manner,” ensuring that this does not negatively impact others awaiting assistance.
