The Councillor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, emphasised the importance of this initiative within the policies aimed at supporting senior citizens in Tenerife, focusing on emotional and cognitive well-being as part of the Comprehensive Care Plan for Older Adults, Islénior.
Launch of ‘Tardes de Película’
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the public organisation Sinpromi, has launched the cultural programme ‘Tardes de Película’. This initiative is part of Islénior and involves a series of 14 film screenings complemented by cultural mediation activities, discussions, and talks specifically designed for the island’s senior population.
Presentation Event
The presentation of this initiative took place this morning (Thursday 18th) at Multicines Tenerife. Attendees included Councillor Águeda Fumero, the Executive Councillor of Sinpromi, Adal García, the president of the Film Talks Association, Ramón González, and film analyst Fernando Iturrate.
Objectives of the Programme
Councillor Águeda Fumero highlighted that “the main aim of this programme is to ensure the right of access to quality culture for older individuals, fostering stable spaces for meeting, togetherness, and inclusion, which help to alleviate unwanted loneliness.”
Fumero also emphasised the significance of this project within the policies aimed at supporting seniors on the island. She stated that it positions the emotional and cognitive well-being of older adults as a priority within public policy. She noted that cinema is not merely a passive form of entertainment but a powerful social tool capable of stimulating cultural memory, fostering dialogue, and, most importantly, combatting potential situations of social isolation.
