SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government Council of the Cabildo of Tenerife approved on Wednesday the contracting frameworks to tender two “large-scale” sewer projects planned for the municipalities of Santa Úrsula and Tacoronte, included in the Island Cooperation Plans for municipal works and services.

This was announced by the Vice President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, alongside the island’s President, Rosa Dávila, at a subsequent press conference. It was revealed that the institution will invest a total of €3,362,000 in these two projects, as detailed in a press release from the island corporation.

The initiatives aim to “modernise and expand sanitation infrastructure,” continuing the goal of “advancing” the implementation of separate systems, as well as optimising the integral water cycle, collaborating with municipalities for the benefit of public health and coastal conservation.

SANTA ÚRSULA

The sanitation improvement project in the municipality of Santa Úrsula has a budget of €1,789,090, with the Cabildo contributing 90% and the Santa Úrsula Town Council covering the remaining 10%.

The works have an execution period of 16 months and will transform the subsurface of La Bastona streets, the upper part of Lomo Hilos, and sections of Cuesta Perera and El Cantillo through technical improvements. These include the installation of a separate sewage network, construction of 170 metres of stormwater drainage, and renewal of part of the supply network, among other initiatives.

Enclosed within the Cooperation Plan 2018-2021, the approved project for the Mesa del Mar area, Tacoronte, has a tender budget of €1,572,960. In this case, the Cabildo covers 80% of the costs (€1,258,368) and the Tacoronte council the remaining 20% (€314,592).

The planned works, scheduled for 16 months, aim to address a “historic deficit” in wastewater collection along the coastal strip through new connections and the laying of the main collector along Mesa del Mar street, among other enhancements.

The Government Council of the Cabildo of Tenerife has also approved €811,698.52 for the recovery of the Los Lavaderos and Fuente del Chorrillo areas in the municipality of Vilaflor de Chasna. This action is part of the Insular Programme for Historical Heritage 2023-2027.

The total investment for the project amounts to €901,887.24, with the Cabildo providing 90% and the Vilaflor Town Council 10%.

The President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, stated that this intervention will allow for “the recovery of a space of immense heritage, historical, and social value for Vilaflor and for the entire island,” preserving elements linked to the collective memory and identity of Tenerife’s traditional settlements.

The grant, awarded directly to the Vilaflor Town Council, is multiannual and will be executed between 2026 and 2028.

YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

Additionally, the Cabildo of Tenerife has given the green light on Wednesday for a call for grants aimed at the employment of young graduates who are unemployed, to be issued by local public entities across the island. This initiative is endowed with €1,759,955.63.

The funding line will enable the hiring of 54 young graduates through training contracts for professional experience, aimed at facilitating their entry into the job market and gaining experience within various public entities in Tenerife.

The call was resolved on a competitive basis and will subsidise up to 100% of the labour costs associated with the hires, including salaries, social contributions, and the auditing expenses provided in the regulatory bases.

A total of eighteen public entities benefited from the grants, including local development companies, municipal public enterprises, foundations, and entities dependent on the Cabildo of Tenerife.

The contracts will have a duration of twelve months and must be formalised within three months following the grant resolution.

BENEFICIARY ENTITIES

The public entities benefiting from this initiative include: Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Company, S.A.U.; Municipal Services Sauzal, S.L. (SEMUSA); Development Society of La Matanza de Acentejo, S.A.U.; Public Services Company of the Los Realejos Town Council, S.L. (REALSERV), and Enterprise Management Services of Candelaria Town Council (EPELCAN).

(MUVISA); Tenerife Scientific and Technological Park, S.A.; Tenerife Fair Institution, S.A.; Insular Handicraft Enterprise, S.A. and SPET.
