Traffic Disruptions in La Laguna Due to Pope Leo XIV’s Visit: Affected Roads, Diversions, and No Parking Areas

Traffic Restrictions for Pope Leo XIV’s Visit to Tenerife

The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Tenerife will necessitate extensive mobility arrangements on 12th June in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. This will involve traffic cuts in the historic centre and various connecting roads to the city centre. The restrictions will impact major streets, access to the area around Plaza del Cristo, Plaza del Adelantado, Camino Las Mercedes, Camino Las Peras, and the Vía de Ronda, among other parts of the city.

The operation will commence early on Friday, although parking prohibitions will begin earlier: from 23:30 on Wednesday 10th June until the event’s conclusion. The aim is to clear the streets included in the mobility plan to facilitate the passage of the papal entourage, as well as the presence of attendees and security services.

Street Closures Starting at 06:00

From 06:00 on Friday 12th June until the end of the event, vehicle circulation will be prohibited on several streets in the historic centre and the connecting transverse roads. This restriction will particularly affect the areas surrounding the planned route and the neighbourhoods close to Plaza del Cristo.

The following roads will face restrictions: Camino Las Mercedes from TF-12 to Camino Las Peras; Camino Las Peras; Concepción Salazar Street from Guillermo Peraza Álvarez to Camino La Rúa; Tabares de Cala; Nava y Grimón; Anchieta; Juan de Vera; Pintor Cristino de Vera; Cabrera Pinto; and Quintín Benito.

Other affected areas will include Avenida República Argentina from Pozo Cabildo to Juan de Vera; Adán Canónigo de la Catedral Street; Camino La Rúa from Seña Nicasia to Plaza del Cristo; Seña Nicasia; Magistrado Campo Llarena; Quinteras; Plaza del Adelantado; Santo Domingo; and Padre Herrera.

Traffic Cuts and Diversions from Early Friday

The plan also includes traffic cuts and diversions from 06:00 on various entry points to the city centre. These will involve Camino Barranco El Rodeo at its intersections with Vereda del Aire and Transversal Alfredo Hernández Primera Izquierda; Camino El Matadero with TF-24; Camino del Medio and TF-265 in San Francisco de Paula with TF-24; and TF-5 at exit 8A.

Other road closures will occur at La Cancela with Copérnico; Catedrático Felipe González Vicén with Camino Las Peras; Fotógrafo Antonio García Rueda with Camino Las Peras; and Concepción Salazar with Guillermo Peraza Álvarez.

Additional restrictions will apply at points such as Luisa Estany Street and Camino El Cañaveral with Camino La Rúa; Catedrático Felipe González Vicén with Avenida República Argentina; Avenida República Argentina with Pozo Cabildo and with Catedrático Felipe González Vicén; Cabrera Pinto with Silverio Alonso; San Juan with Manuel de Ossuna; Plaza Doctor Olivera with Hermanos Marrero; Magistrado Campo Llarena with TF-13; and Santo Domingo and Padre Herrera with Molinos de Agua.

Road Closures Based on Traffic Flow

In addition to the planned closures, the local police may implement further cuts and diversions depending on the influx of vehicles and people. These measures will also be in effect from 06:00 on 12th June until the conclusion of the event of Pope Leo XIV.

Potentially affected points include Europa Street with Avenida Los Menceyes; Avenida Leonardo Torriani with Los Menceyes; and Avenida La Trinidad at its intersections with Barcelona, Pablo Iglesias, Catedral, Pedro Zerolo, and the roundabout at Padre Anchieta.

Temporary Changes in Direction and Taxi Stops

The plan also includes specific changes to traffic flow. Concepción Salazar Street, between Camino Las Peras and Camino La Rúa, will have a provisional change of direction during the operation.

Additionally, Copérnico Street will change direction from La Cancela Street to Galileo Street. These changes aim to facilitate diversions and manage traffic near the closed areas.

The taxi stop at Plaza del Adelantado will be relocated during the closures. Temporarily, it will move to Catedral Street, between Antonio González Street and Elías Serra Rafols Street.

Where Parking Will Be Restricted from Wednesday Night in La Laguna

Parking restrictions will commence prior to the traffic cuts. From 23:30 on Wednesday 10th June until the end of the event, parking will be prohibited in a wide range of streets, paths, and public spaces in La Laguna.

Parking will not be allowed in the parking next to the Municipal Market, Camino El Matadero, Camino Barranco El Rodeo—from Camino El Matadero to Camino Vereda del Aire—, Camino Las Mercedes—from TF-13 to Camino Las Peras—, Camino Las Peras, Concepción Salazar Street, and Camino La Rúa from Enrique Castrillo Cruz to Plaza del Cristo.

The ban will also apply to Luisa Estany Street from Camino La Rúa to Aguamansa; the parking area at La Gallardina shooting range; Camino El Cañaveral; Pintor José Aguiar from Plaza del Cristo to Camino Militar de San Roque; Camino Pista Militar de San Roque from Pintor José Aguiar to TF-13; Camino Ladera de San Roque in its parking area; and Plaza del Cristo.

Historic Centre Streets Where Parking Will Be Prohibited

In the historic quarter, parking will also be restricted on Nava y Grimón, Quintín Benito, Cabrera Pinto, Tabares de Cala, Anchieta—from Nava y Grimón to Rodríguez Moure—, Quinteras, Plaza del Adelantado, Santo Domingo, Lope de Guerra, Padre Herrera, Juan de Vera, Pintor Cristino de Vera, and Adán Canónigo de la Catedral.

The restriction also extends to Avenida República Argentina from Juan de Vera to Catedrático Felipe González Vicén; Fray José Arenas Sabán from Doctor Escolástico Aguilar Soto to República Argentina; Catedrático Felipe González Vicén from Camino Las Peras to Copérnico; Fotógrafo Antonio García Rueda; and La Cancela from Copérnico to Camino Las Peras.
