63-Year-Old Arrested for Assaulting Elderly Mother and Dog in Santa Cruz
Incident Overview
A 63-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning by local police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for allegedly assaulting his 86-year-old mother and a family dog at their home in the Los Gladiolos neighbourhood. The incident was reported around midday when the police communications centre received a call about a possible case of domestic violence.
Upon arrival at the residence, officers found the woman lying on the floor and unable to move. According to a cohabiting family member, the arrested man had a history of threatening behaviour, including death threats and warnings that he would harm the dog.
Injuries and Arrest
Inside the house, police discovered the dog with severe injuries and bloodstains nearby. The man, identified as J.F.M.M., later appeared at the scene and admitted to attacking the animal, claiming he had struck it with a dumbbell, which was seized as evidence.
Given the circumstances, officers proceeded with his arrest, and he was transported to a nearby health centre. The 86-year-old victim received assistance from emergency services and was evacuated to Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital for medical evaluation due to her injuries.
Veterinary Care for the Dog
The injured dog was urgently treated and taken to a veterinary clinic with the assistance of Civil Protection volunteers, where its condition was reported as critical. The proceedings have since been handed over to the competent judicial authority in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
