New Fire Prevention Tower Installed in Tenerife
The prevention measures against forest fires in Tenerife have taken a significant step forward with the installation of the first fully sensor-equipped tower for monitoring and detecting such disasters in the natural environment. Located in Los Topos, Vilaflor, this tower is the first of six vertical infrastructures, fitted with cameras that feature both thermal and visible sensors. These sensors are capable of identifying hotspots, reducing false positives—thanks to ongoing training with Artificial Intelligence—and providing real-time information to the Cecopin. This advancement was detailed on Monday, alongside the full deployment plan, during the presentation of the fire prevention campaign by the Cabildo de Tenerife in the municipality of Southern Medanías.
Innovative Technology for Enhanced Monitoring
The Los Topos tower represents a shift in traditional fire detection monitoring. The installed camera is energy autonomous and features various types of connections, ensuring it continues to operate and relay vital data to facilitate strategic responses to fires, regardless of circumstances. The goal of these devices is to monitor 90% of Tenerife’s total surface area when fully deployed in the coming months.
