SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, has issued a decree regarding the official visit of Pope León XIV to the capital of Tenerife on 12 June. He is expected to arrive at 11:30 AM from La Laguna.
Itinerary of the Visit
Upon his arrival, the Pope will tour various parts of the city in the ‘papamóvil’. His route will include La Salle Avenue, Weyler Square, Méndez Núñez, El Pilar, Villalba Hervás, and La Marina, continuing around the Cabildo de Tenerife, along the Maritime Avenue, and ending at the Tenerife Auditorium.
The tour will conclude at the port area of Los Llanos, where a greeting to the public is planned before a homily is held at the port facility from 12:15 PM.
Recommendations for Citizens
The decree includes a series of recommendations and guidelines aimed at the public to facilitate the event, minimise mobility disruptions, and ensure the smooth operation of public services on this exceptional day.
José Manuel Bermúdez emphasized that this is a “historic event” for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with significant institutional, social, and religious importance, which will place the city in the international spotlight during this “very special” day.
Bermúdez noted that “the aim of this decree is to ensure that citizens have all necessary information well in advance, allowing them to plan their travel and participate in the scheduled events with maximum safety and comfort”.
He added that “cooperation between all administrations and various deployed teams will allow the visit to proceed smoothly, but it is crucial to have the public’s collaboration, adhering to the established recommendations and using the official information channels provided by the City Council”.
The Mayor called for everyone to “experience this day with responsibility, civility, and respect, contributing to the success of a visit that will be part of the recent history of Santa Cruz de Tenerife”.
Planning Ahead for Travel
The decree advises planning travel in advance, consulting official information channels, avoiding, where possible, the use of private vehicles, and prioritising public transport. It also stresses the need to respect provisional signage, heed security forces’ instructions, and use designated pedestrian routes.
Additionally, the document includes reminders about preserving public spaces, emphasising respect for green areas, proper waste disposal, and protection of urban furniture and the city’s vegetation.
As a complementary measure to reduce travel during the event, citizen service offices and registration assistance will remain closed to the public throughout the day on 12 June.
The City Council has also set up a specific webpage www.santacruzdetenerife.es/web/santa-cruz-con-el-papa; a municipal phone line 010; the Anaga chatbot service (WhatsApp 695886891); and an email address, santacruzconelpapa@santacruzdetenerife.es to provide updated information about the papal visit, mobility arrangements, and potential incidents that may arise during the day.
