Santa Cruz de Tenerife Prepares for the Annual Bike Festival
Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host a new edition of the Bike Festival this Sunday, 7th June. This family-oriented sporting event aims to bring together hundreds of participants as they cycle through various routes in the city. The activity’s goal is to promote sustainable mobility, encourage healthy lifestyle habits, and advocate for the use of bicycles as a transport alternative.
To facilitate the event, the Santa Cruz City Council has prepared a special traffic management plan, which will include temporary road closures and parking restrictions on 13 streets and avenues in the municipality. These measures are designed to ensure the safety of participants and to enable the smooth running of the ride, which will traverse an extensive urban route.
Route Details
The route will commence from Avenida de Madrid and will continue along Avenida Bélgica, Avenida de San Sebastián, Avenida La Salle, Puente Galcerán, Plaza Weyler, Calle Méndez Núñez, Calle El Pilar, Calle Villalba Hervás, Calle La Marina, Avenida Marítima, the Vía Litoral tunnel, and Avenida Francisco La Roche. As it passes through central areas and busy thoroughfares, the Council advises participants to plan their journeys in advance.
Traffic Disruptions
Roads included in the route will not remain closed throughout the day but only during the movement of the peloton. Reopening will occur gradually as soon as the last cyclist has passed and under the supervision of the Local Police.
Key traffic disruptions include the closure of Avenida de Madrid from 7:00 am. Additionally, the Avenida Francisco La Roche, between the Tres de Mayo roundabout and its intersection with the Rambla, will be closed from 9:00 am. Progressive closures of the other streets along the festival route will commence from 10:00 am.
Parking Restrictions
The plans also feature parking restrictions from early morning. From 1:00 am onwards, parking will be prohibited on various stretches of Avenida de Madrid, Avenida Bélgica, Calle Méndez Núñez, Calle El Pilar, and Calle Villalba Hervás. Starting at 3:00 am, this prohibition will extend to Calle La Marina, Avenida Marítima, Avenida Francisco La Roche, and battery parking spaces located between Plaza del Cabildo and Plaza de Europa.
Public Cooperation Essential
The City Council requests the collaboration of the public to prevent any incidents and urges everyone to follow the directions of the Local Police and the event staff at all times. They also advise consulting alternative routes and adjusting travel plans ahead of time in the affected areas.
The Bike Festival thus solidifies its position as one of the popular activities linked to sport and sustainable mobility in Santa Cruz, offering an inclusive proposal for families, enthusiasts, and locals eager to enjoy the city on two wheels.
