SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife is promoting a culture of reading among 7,500 students in 283 classrooms in Tenerife through the Insular Reading Encouragement Program (Pialte). This program consists of five projects in Early Childhood and Primary aiming to improve reading comprehension, orality, creativity, writing accuracy and the development of a reading habit. Additionally, there are six separate projects in secondary and high school focusing on orality, creativity, writing skills, fostering a reading habit, audiovisual language, critical thinking and various literary styles.
Efraín Medina, the Minister of Employment and Education, stated that the primary objective is to support educational centers in Tenerife to elevate reading rates, enhance reading comprehension, and engage students in learning essential skills, particularly linguistic communication, information processing and digital competence, cultural and artistic competence, and the ability to learn.
Moreover, Medina emphasized the growth and curricular improvements in Pialte. It has become one of the exemplary projects for teachers on the Island. “The significant aspect is the classroom work, highly appreciated by educational centers. Each project is complemented by learning situations, activities, and valuable curricular materials which incorporate innovative strategies,” highlighted Medina. Additionally, the program provides 45 professionals in reading animation, cinema, journalism, writers, narrators, etc., who directly engage with students in the classroom.
Each project spans between 5 to 10 total hours spread throughout the school year, along with activities for teachers to facilitate between sessions.
