The Candelaria Town Council has deactivated the Municipal Emergency Plan based on information received from the Directorate General of Security and Emergencies. This decision comes after concluding emergency-related actions and following an analysis during a meeting held by the mayor, Mari Brito, with councilors, Local Police, and municipal technicians.
This decision has allowed for the reopening of the municipal parking lot in front of the Town Hall and the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, while San Blas promenade will remain closed to traffic for both people and vehicles.
Additionally, beaches will gradually be reopened, with each one being evaluated beforehand.
At the moment, Playa La Viuda will not be opened due to damage to the access to the bathing area, which poses a risk to the population. Another access point, La Hornilla, will be prepared until the protruding walkway from the municipal pool can be removed. The access to Punta Larga beach closest to the Tenerife Tour Hotel, heavily damaged by the storm, will also remain closed. Additionally, a section of Playa de Los Guanches will remain cordoned off.
During Thursday, municipal technicians will continue evaluating homes that have suffered damage to ensure their safety.
Mari Brito stated that the situation has improved overnight without any incidents, leading to the favourable decision to deactivate the Municipal Plan. She also mentioned that five people remain evacuated from the La Viuda area and consideration is being given to further evacuations on La Arena street. “Technicians are working on it, and we have been monitoring this area, especially a house with more intense damage,” she explained.
The Town Council reiterates the importance for citizens to continue following the instructions provided by security and emergency services and avoid accessing areas that may pose a risk.
