SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, May 20. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The ASG candidate for the Cabildo de La Gomera and the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Casimiro Curbelo, has claimed to provide “a real solution” to the “collapse” of the Port of Los Cristianos (Tenerife).
According to the party, the candidate pointed out that “during this time the competent administrations have not been able to unblock any of the proposed solutions”, a situation, he said, “that directly affects more than 1,700,000 passengers and 496,000 vehicles a year”.
Curbelo assured that this is a problem that transcends the scope of the port itself, since the current access system to the site “is insufficient for the volume of passengers that the port facility receives.”
For this reason, he insisted on “urgent measures” so that the entry and exit is carried out in a more agile way, mainly, at peak arrival times of the ships and on the days of greatest influx.
He also warned that the dimensions of the port, and the increase in demand for mobility between the islands of La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera, “show that it has become too small, in terms of space for operations.”
However, he regretted that no action had been taken “from common sense” to materialize the Port of Fonsalía project, after more than 25 years included as one of the strategic connection infrastructures between the islands.
