SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Entities and individuals have submitted 14 complaints to the Tenerife Island Water Council regarding the declaration of a water emergency, which will undergo analysis and resolution in the days ahead.
After completion of this procedure, the declaration will be issued, valid for six months with the possibility of extension for another six months, in accordance with regulations, as stated in a press release by the Cabildo.
The Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability and Security, Blanca Pérez, emphasized that the declaration of a water emergency involves an administrative process with specific deadlines that must be met.
“The regulations are explicit, and we must adhere to the legal procedures and deadlines. I wish to acknowledge the dedication of all Tenerife Island Water Council staff as they have been working tirelessly since the Council Plenary approved initiating the process for the water emergency declaration,” she stated.
Pérez further explained, “Initially, we requested information from all municipalities and entities to provide updates on their situations. We also engaged with various concession holders and owners of seawater desalination plants to report any potential surpluses. Following this groundwork, a document was crafted containing 75 measures tailored to diverse requirements.”
