SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 20 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Town Hall of La Laguna (Tenerife) has begun initial steps to explore the creation of a monument commemorating Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the municipality on 12 June.
In a statement, Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez explained that the council aims to connect this artistic work with the message of integration and support for migrants expressed by the Pontiff during his visit.
This sculpture will be added to the city’s artistic catalogue and will be the second piece dedicated to a pope in La Laguna.
In 2012, a bronze statue of Pope John Paul II was installed next to the Church of the Conception. This work, created by Polish artist Czeslaw Dzwigaj, was donated by the Juan Kobylansky Foundation and the Union of Societies and Organisations of Poles in Latin America (USOPAL).
