Collaboration to Improve Healthcare in La Laguna

The La Laguna City Council has held a working meeting with Juan José Afonso, the manager of Primary Healthcare in Tenerife. The aim of this meeting was to strengthen institutional coordination and address the existing needs and challenges in the various health centres across the municipality.
City Council’s Commitment
In attendance were Sergio Eiroa, the councillor responsible for the Local Implementation of the Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy, and Domingo Galván, the councillor for Health. They expressed the council’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Canary Health Service on initiatives aimed at improving citizen care.
Eiroa highlighted that, “This initial meeting has established a direct and ongoing communication channel with the new Primary Healthcare Management. This is fundamental for continuing to advance community health improvements and the service our residents receive.”
Galván remarked, “We have been able to discuss various situations affecting health centres in the municipality and jointly analyse potential avenues for action and institutional collaboration.”
Importance of Communication
Juan José Afonso emphasised the importance of creating lines of cooperation and permanent communication channels between administrations. This will help address the needs and improvements required in healthcare services provided in the municipality. He valued the initiatives undertaken thus far and expressed his commitment to advancing the planned projects at local centres and clinics, as well as collaborative actions in community health activities. “A close collaboration between different authorities for the benefit of citizens must be a primary task,” he stressed.
Addressing Healthcare Needs
During the meeting, various issues related to the operation of healthcare centres in the municipality were discussed, including different incidents and needs identified by both the City Council and the Primary Healthcare Management. Possible lines of cooperation to address some of these matters were also explored in areas where local administration can provide support.
Eiroa added, “Health is a shared responsibility between administrations, and from the City Council, we will continue to collaborate to promote initiatives and solutions that positively impact the quality of life for our citizens.”
Future Meetings
“The commitment is to work in a coordinated manner, set priorities, and monitor progress. Therefore, we have agreed to hold another meeting in three weeks to assess the status of the actions taken and continue to make necessary improvements,” Galván noted.
Both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining smooth and ongoing communication to address identified needs and enhance coordination between administrations for the benefit of the residents of La Laguna.
