The City Council of La Laguna has held a working meeting with the manager of Primary Care in Tenerife, Juan José Afonso, aimed at strengthening institutional coordination and addressing the needs and challenges faced by the various health centres in the municipality.
Participation and Collaboration
The meeting included participation from the councillor responsible for the Local Implementation of the Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy, Sergio Eiroa, and the Health Councillor, Domingo Galván. They conveyed the Council’s willingness to collaborate closely with the Canary Islands Health Service on actions that will enhance the public’s healthcare.
Enhanced Communication
Eiroa highlighted that “this initial meeting has established a direct and permanent communication channel with the new Primary Care Management, which is fundamental for continuing to advance in the improvement of community health and the care our residents receive.”
Galván noted, “We were able to discuss various issues affecting the municipality’s health centres and jointly analyse potential avenues for action and institutional collaboration.”
Commitment to Improvement
Juan José Afonso, the Primary Care Manager of Tenerife, emphasised the importance of establishing collaboration lines and permanent communication channels between administrations to address needs and enhance the healthcare services provided in the municipality. Afonso appreciated the measures taken and expressed his commitment to progressing with the planned projects in local centres and clinics, as well as in joint actions developed in community health activities. “Close cooperation between different administrative leaders for the benefit of the public should be a primary task,” he stressed.
Operational Issues Addressed
During the meeting, various issues related to the functioning of the municipality’s healthcare centres were analysed, along with several incidents and needs identified by both the City Council and the Primary Care Management. Possible collaboration lines were also discussed to address some of these matters in areas where local administration can provide support.
Eiroa added, “Health is a shared responsibility among administrations, and from the City Council, we will continue to collaborate to promote initiatives and solutions that positively impact the quality of life for citizens.”
Future Meetings
Galván stated, “The commitment is to work in a coordinated manner, set priorities, and monitor progress. We have agreed to hold another meeting in three weeks to assess the status of the actions and continue advancing necessary improvements.”
Both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining fluid and permanent communication to address identified needs and strengthen coordination between administrations for the benefit of the residents of La Laguna.
