Socialist Group of Granadilla de Abona Demands Resolution to Police Conflict
The Socialist Group of Granadilla de Abona has called on the municipal government to resolve the ongoing conflict with the Local Police, whose officers are currently refraining from performing extra duties. This conflict, which has been ongoing for more than a month, arises from the lack of progress in the approval of a new agreement for civil servants, intended to replace the current one from 2006. Spokesperson Jennifer Miranda noted that negotiations began under the socialist mayoralty, with the text nearly finalised, yet it has yet to be presented to the council.
The situation affects the entire workforce, but particularly the Local Police, who take on the most extra duties and, under the current agreement, earn less for these than for regular shifts. After more than a month without progress, officers decided on 18 May to stop covering these extra services as a form of pressure.
Difficulties in Covering Services
The PSOE warns that the lack of personnel has become evident during local festivals, with limited presence noted at events such as the dance of taifa, the San Antonio pilgrimage, and the concert by Tony Tún Tún. This shortfall has also led to difficulties in covering regular services, particularly at night.
The PSOE reports that neighbourhood complaints regarding safety in the municipality have only increased over the past year in areas such as Atogo, Los Abrigos, El Médano, and San Isidro.
