SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Canary Islands Government has launched a new grant programme aimed at promoting sustainable urban mobility, with a budget of €1,875,000, co-financed through the FEDER Canary Islands Programme 2021-2027.
These grants are intended for the purchase of electric or zero-emission vehicles for public passenger transport, as well as for the establishment of publicly accessible charging infrastructure. The objective is to continue making progress in reducing emissions and decarbonising transport in the Canary Islands, as stated by the Ministry in a press release on Saturday.
The Minister for Ecological Transition and Energy, Mariano Hernández Zapata, asserted that sustainable mobility is “a key piece” in advancing the ecological and energy transition of the Canary Islands. He added that the Government aims to continue “promoting measures that facilitate the adoption of cleaner and more efficient technologies in public and professional transport.”
“These grants will allow for the renewal of fleets, the expansion of the charging network, and the provision of new opportunities for public administrations as well as for companies and professionals committed to a more environmentally friendly mobility model,” he further remarked.
GRANT PROGRAMME DETAILS
The grant programme for acquiring electric vehicles is aimed at both public and private companies providing public passenger transport, as well as taxi licence holders and chauffeur-driven vehicles (VTC). Grants may reach up to €30,000 per vehicle, depending on the vehicle category and whether or not another vehicle is scrapped.
Additionally, the grant line for charging infrastructure will subsidise the installation of publicly accessible charging points of various capacities, potentially covering up to 100% of the subsidised investment for local corporations and public companies.
The call establishes a specific fund reserve for transport companies and professionals, municipalities, and island councils, with a budget of up to €625,000 allocated to each of these sectors. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the available budget is exhausted.
Interested individuals and entities can submit their applications from 12 June to 13 July via the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy.
TRAINING SESSION
Furthermore, to promote awareness and provide ongoing support for potential beneficiaries of these grants, the Ministry of Ecological Transition has organised a training session. This will be conducted through its Energy Efficiency and New Technologies Service and in collaboration with the Energy Offices of the Canary Islands (OEC). The session, which has already been announced, will take place online on Friday, 19 June, starting at 11:00 am and lasting approximately one hour.
This technical session, to which interested parties can register by sending an email to estrategia@oficinasenergia.com, is intended for municipalities, island councils, entities such as the Provincial Federation of Metal and New Technologies Companies of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Femete) and Gran Canaria (Femepa), the CEOE Tenerife Confederation, the Canary Islands Confederation of Entrepreneurs from Gran Canaria, the Technological Institute for Renewable Energies (ITER), the Energy Transition Office of Tenerife (OTE), the Insular Energy Council of Gran Canaria, as well as other public or private companies and owners of taxis or chauffeur-driven vehicles.
During the session, the key aspects of the grant programme and application requirements will be detailed, with the final part reserved for addressing any questions that may arise.
