The City Council of Port of the Cross has announced that the blaze that broke out on the evening of Sunday, September 1, has been effectively extinguished.
The operation, which involved the Tenerife Fire Department, along with the Local Police and National Police, successfully brought the flames under control. No casualties or injuries have been reported.
The fire impacted an unoccupied building situated on Chorro Cuaco Street. This property, which is located close to the former Xibana Park hotel and Valois Street, is known to attract squatters, raising alarm among local residents.
Officials have cordoned off the affected area while investigations are conducted to establish the fire’s origin. The Scientific Police Brigade from Puerto de la Cruz and Los Realejos Police Station is overseeing this investigation, and the possibility of arson has not been dismissed.
A local observer reported seeing an individual near the house with a petrol can, prompting authorities to consider the arson theory.
The council urges the community to steer clear of the area as emergency services continue their efforts and undertake the necessary investigations.
