Just a few days ago, on November 28, the State Government, at the proposal of the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory Ángel Víctor Torres, allocated 797,000 euros for the removal of boats and canoes accumulated in the port of La Restinga (El Hierro). ), where they were affecting the operation of naval infrastructure. Since 2020, 95 vessels have been counted in that environment.
Los Cristianos is another of the points in the Archipelago to which more boats of this type are transported, but in this case their treatment and destruction is faster, as it is a state-owned port.
The situation is complicated in cases in which boats and cayucos arrive by their own means, such as Las Galletas, in Arona, where they join one another and the withdrawal depends on the municipality in question, in this case the Arona City Council.
WITHDRAWAL
In January 2021, the municipality began the removal of the two that were on Las Galletas beach. However, once these disappeared, three more have appeared on the coast. Two of them are located on the town’s beach, while a third is in the sea, moored to the coast.
Two months ago, the City Council reported that it was working on its removal, although the number of boats has been growing, coinciding with the migratory surge, which has resulted in some complaints from residents regarding the repeated accumulation of this type of waste in the access. from town.
