The Equality area of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council, led by Councilor Natalia Afonso, implements a better action protocol for the detection and assistance of possible cases of gender violence, in collaboration with the areas of Social Law and Family Care and Childhood, led by councilors Macarena García and Rebeca Toste, respectively. Given the need to strengthen coordination between both areas, the City Council seeks to optimize resources and offer comprehensive and close attention to the women of the municipality “with the objective that they receive attention from the social and legal spheres and focused on providing a response to the problems they raise and that allows the case to be followed up,” says Afonso. Likewise, the need to establish a reinforcement of the activity of the Municipal Women’s Center with a professional from the Social area is raised, so that cases are referred between areas to improve the first attention and assessment. From there they will be referred to the lawyer or the services, carrying out the steps required to cover their social needs, proposing an intervention strategy to follow in each case, without prejudice to coordination and follow-up with the rest of the professionals and that such cases be taken to the Assessment Table-Multidisciplinary Intervention Unit in situations of Gender Violence (UMIV) for the definition of the intervention plan and monitoring.
