La Victoria de Acentejo revalues the close link that the municipality maintains with the rural world, in this case, reflected in chestnuts and crafts. This Saturday and Sunday, November 12 and 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Plaza Rodríguez Lara and its surroundings, the fourteenth edition of the Crafts and Chestnut Fair will be held.
For the Councilor for Culture, Yurena Gutiérrez, the celebrations around traditions take on a special role in an agricultural municipality such as La Victoria de Acentejo, “where the chestnut tree has such an outstanding presence, as does crafts”. “They are part of our signs of identity and that is why the City Council wants to promote them, especially so that the younger generations know them, in order to preserve them and promote them so that they are not lost.”
The Handicraft and Chestnut Fair is an event already consolidated in the municipality, which in each of its editions attracts many residents and visitors who come to enjoy the quality of a product par excellence on these dates, such as chestnuts. , in addition to the laborious crafts of all kinds. In the more than 60 stalls that will be present at the show, you can find basketry work with chestnut, fretwork, macramé, natural candles, toys, fashion, dolls, rosettes, uses of paper and cardboard, jewelry and leather goods. Likewise, there will be food stalls with jams, liqueurs, honey, olive oil, cheeses and mojos, as well as chestnut stalls and a large traditional tavern where you can taste Canarian cuisine and good local wine.
Throughout the two planned days, different performances by folk groups will take place. On Saturday the musical groups La Esperanza (12:00 p.m.), Arraigo (4:00 p.m.) and Acoidán (5:30 p.m.) will take the stage, while on Sunday it will be the turn of Guarache (11:30 a.m.), Rondalla de la Tercera Age Tagoro Victoriero (4:00 p.m. hours) and Add (17.30 hours).
The Councilor for Culture invites residents and visitors to attend this event to enjoy chestnuts, good wine, folklore and, “above all, to value the work of artisans and support this sector”, concludes the mayor .
