The National Police has arrested a 64-year-old man of Spanish nationality as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of continued fraud against the clients of the travel agency of which he was the sole administrator, adding a total of 45 people affected and close to 40,000 euros ripped off
In recent weeks, complaints have begun to accumulate from people affected by similar events related to the same travel agency, located in the town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
The complainants claimed to have made the payment of a reservation for itineraries both to the Peninsula and to international destinations without receiving the tickets for them, all of them for values of hundreds of euros per person, receiving excuses such as that the minimum number of travelers to make the trip.
Faced with this situation, they contacted the agency to claim the money back, which, however, never occurred. Thus, until the agency employee herself, also affected because she had not been paid for two months, encouraged clients to file the corresponding complaint because the person in charge had disappeared since the beginning of October, without giving more signs of life than a communication through messaging with the aforementioned employee in which his sentimental partner stated that he was on medical leave.
In total, thanks to the collaboration of this worker, it was learned that there were 45 people affected by unreturned reservations, reaching a sum of 39,397 euros cheated.
With all these data, the National Police interviewed several of those affected and carried out the pertinent investigative work until the culprit could be identified and located, linking him to the travel agency and the bank account in which some of the Bookings.
For this reason, he was arrested for a crime of continued fraud, being placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
