When the Massif of Anaga touches the ocean on the side of Hidalgo Point, stands a rock formation that seems to be split in two at its top. It is an imposing rock called Roque Two Brothers. Such a formation does not leave anyone who sees it indifferent, just as it did not leave indifferent those who saw it a long, long time ago and a rock so different from the rest could not be the work of nature’s whim; It could not be, despite their volcanic origin, that these basalt formations responded solely to chance. So it is here, in the magical area of Punta del Hidalgo, under the Anaga forests and where the water hugs the land and vice versa, where they say that Two passionate lovers took their own lives when they found out that they were brothers, son and daughter of the same father and the same mother. And since they couldn’t bear to live apart they ended their lives by throwing themselves from the steep mountain.

There is an old text that collects this legend, or it is not known if it is a magical story, which shapes how the impossible love of these two lovers has been told for a long time.

The legend

Rock Two Brothers.

Legend has it that in that place of Punta del Hidalgo, next to a peaked mountain located on the edge of the Troche BeachLike every day, some young lovers, sheltered from the loneliness of the place, shared their desires and their love under shelter. They looked at each other, spoke to each other with their eyes. A thousand childhood stories were told. every day that passed his love was greater and purer and increased with sweet words and caresses.

Legends of Tenerife: The dragon with 100 heads

One summer afternoon their bodies began to feel attracted by an irresistible passion. They joined in a long hug and numerous kisses, full of love and desire. They touched each other suspiciously, their bodies felt more than ever one inside the other, they had never dared to go as far as they had that day, but it was hopeless to contain their desires. They made love to exhaustion on those hot black sands. Embraced and in complete silence, they looked at each other enjoying immense happiness.

It was then that they told each other an old story that made them cry and wish with all their might that they had never met. It is said that two children, when they were small, were orphaned and were given up for adoption to two different families, their adoptive parents told each of them that they had a brother and a sisterand that if some distant day they were to meet, they would know that they were brothers joining the two halves of a handkerchief that had been cut in half and delivered to each of them one of the parties. The lovers, seeing that their handkerchiefs matched, looked into each other’s eyes and merged into a long embrace.

It was so much their regret and sadness to know that they were blood brothers that they climbed desolate between tears to the top of the mountain and after looking at each other without speaking, They threw themselves into the void ending their lives and that forbidden love, the sea with extreme delicacy, was in charge of cleaning their shattered bodies that remained embraced on the black stones of the beach. At that precise moment the sky blackened, lightning and thunder roared at the top of the mountain that, also prey to the pain of the lovers, roared in pain and split in two.

From the sad event, that place of Punta del Hidalgo is known by the name of Risco de Los Dos Hermanos. This is a beautiful love story that will be remembered in time and will never die in memory of those young people who preferred to end their lives rather than give up their love. This text appears in Tagoror.es.

Roque de Dos Hermanos, in Punta del Hidalgo. Zeni Acosta

There is even a poem Fernando Garcia Ramos that sings to the forbidden love of these two brothers who decided to end their lives rather than live apart from each other:

Oh, stone split in two, Risco de los dos Hermanos!

dark tragedy told by old men to boys.

Word of mouth story; story of love and tears.

He fell where the sea; She, at the bottom of the ravine.

Lightning separated them, forever with a claw.

They went up the mountain because they soon fell in love,

beautiful in light and at night, in a kiss already tied,

without knowing that they were their blood daughters of the same lap.

The rock then spoke and that was commented on,

and the news of this case reached the abyss.

The voice of the picacho reached the Roques de Anaga

the black beach knew.

There was no god who did not know this unfortunate fact.

This is the story told to children by the elderly,

story I heard one day in Punta del Hidalgo.

There is stone split in two, Risco de los dos Hermanos!

He fell into the sea! She, at the bottom of the ravine!
