An increasing number of companies are committing to reinvesting in their local environment and creating advantages for the surrounding communities. This becomes more pronounced with significant enhancements in ecological impact and a boost in the circular economy. Spring Hotels is consistently advancing its sustainability policies and has established a groundbreaking partnership with the longstanding firm, FAST, to furnish its hotels with the finest fruits and vegetables cultivated in our archipelago. This initiative marks them as the first hotel group to engage in such an agreement with the agricultural enterprise from Tenerife.
This collaboration solidifies its dedication to sustainability, local production, and advocacy for goods cultivated in our own territory, aiming to foster a model prioritising local cuisine while minimising environmental impacts.
An Agreement Reflective of the Km0 Philosophy
The Km0 concept, encouraged through this partnership, guarantees that products are cultivated and consumed within a close proximity, dramatically diminishing the carbon footprint caused by food transportation. FAST, encompassing a network of over 400 affiliated Canarian farmers, assures the freshness and quality of the produce that will arrive directly from our island to the Spring hotels.

The beneficial impact on both the economy and the environment is indisputable, fostering the development of Canarian producers and farmers, and generating employment and activities within the primary sector. Furthermore, efforts are ongoing to transform tourism into a considerably more sustainable practice, providing visitors with high-quality products sourced from our lands, while simultaneously reducing the environmental footprint of tourist activities.
This partnership not only promotes the use of local products but also forms part of the Circular Tourist Communities initiative, where FAST and Spring Hotels are collaborating partners. The alliance includes projects aimed at minimising food waste and maximising the use of natural resources, thus completing the cycle of consumption and production.
A Journey of Sustainable Partnership
In discussing this partnership, the president of FAST, Fernando Campos, emphasised: “The dedication to Km0 is not merely a passing trend, it is a promise to our land, our farmers, and the sustainable future of the Canary Islands.”

Conversely, Miguel Villarroya, CEO of Spring Hotels, remarked that “The incorporation of Km0 products into our offerings not only supports local farmers, but also enriches our guests’ experiences with fresh and genuine products from our islands.” He further indicated that the direction the hotel group intends to pursue “is one of close and complete collaboration with our environment in pursuit of sustainable tourism.”
