The launch was held at the Hotel Escuela, in an act that was attended, among others, by the national president of NC, Román Rodríguez; the representative of NC during this term in the Congress of Deputies in Madrid, Pedro Quevedo; and the vice-president of the Canarian Parliament, Esther González.
Rodríguez admitted that the capital of Tenerife “deserves to have more opportunities” and recalled that the transforming instrument with the greatest capacity is the city councils. “Nueva Canarias cannot be understood without municipalism and Santa Cruz, with the start-up of this Local Committee, is going to become a bastion of Canarian progress. You can talk and criticize. It is something legitimate, but if you want to change things you have to commit yourself”.
“You can not leave the present and the future of the Canary Islands in the hands of just anyone -recognized the president of NC-. I only fear the corrupt and the mediocre who will be in charge of the institutions if we allow them with our votes. We are in a position to have representation in the Santa Cruz City Council, in the Cabildo of Tenerife and in the Parliament for this island so that this important territory is a substantial part of the Canarian movement of progress that Nueva Canarias represents”.
Odalys Padrón, for her part, indicated that from today “we are going to prepare an electoral program that prioritizes the neighbors, that is proactive and that is capable of exciting the chicharrero people. We know it will be difficult, but we face this stage with the utmost determination and with a lot of work. We will need a lot of help because, electorally speaking, we are going to give the mother of all battles. We are going to work our asses off so that Santa Cruz rises from her ashes. We want to count on you and get the best possible results. Thank you for being here because it is a privilege to fight for, together, to have a better Santa Cruz”.
The representative of NC in the Congress of Deputies in Madrid during this mandate, Pedro Quevedo, stressed that Santa Cruz “needs and shakes and new air is going to be brought by this new Local Committee of Nueva Canarias in the capital of Tenerife. We may make mistakes, but no one can ever tell us that we have reached where we shouldn’t or that we have renounced the principles that have brought us here”.
The vice president of NC and mayor of Telde, Carmen Hernández, also took part; the Secretary of Statutes and Self-government of NC, Carmen Nieves Gaspar; and the secretary of Territorial Implantation and Insular Coordinator of NC in Tenerife, Valentín Correa.
The new NC Local Committee in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is chaired by Odalys Padrón and will have Gregorio Negrín as its secretary of organization and electoral action. The rest of the members that make it up are María de la Cruz Altable as Secretary of Welfare, Quality of Life, Services and Culture; María Jesús Delgado as secretary of Sustainability, Progress, Rights and Freedoms; Pablo Aznar as Secretary of Urban Planning and Territory Planning; Justo Menéndez as Secretary of Public Transport, Mobility, Traffic and Security; Rafael González as Secretary of the Environment; Delfina Fernández-Trujillo as Secretary of Administration; Leticia Oval as Secretary of Municipal Policy; Bernardino Martín as Secretary of Social Movements; and Francisco Quesada, Juan José Fajardo, Teresa Palenzuela, Jorge Castilla and Jesús Javier Quesada as members.
