The Canary Islands received a total of 1,110,097 international tourists in April, which is 914.4% more than in the same month of 2021, with tourist spending amounting to 1,481 million euros, 940.7% more than before. one year.
This is how it is collected this Wednesday by the Survey of Tourist Expenditure (Egatur) and Tourist Movements in Borders (Frontur) published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
In this way, the arrival of foreign tourists to the Islands represents 18.2% of the total registered in the country, with Catalonia being the first main destination for tourists in April, with 19% of the total.
In the Canary Islands, the United Kingdom is the main country of origin of international tourists (with 36.4% of the total), followed by Germany (19.8%).
As for tourist spending, the Islands recorded an average spending per person of 1,334 euros in April, 2.6% more than a year ago, while the average duration of the trip was almost nine days.
In the first four months of 2022, the Canary Islands received a total of 3,961,508 international tourists, 968.3% more, and accumulated international tourist spending of 5,696 million euros, 978.5% more than a year ago .
The stages of trips made by international tourists in April increased by 890.8% in the annual rate. 19.1% are carried out in Catalonia (with an increase of 1,198.9%).
Canarias is the community with the most overnight stays (almost 9.6 million, 724.5% more than in April 2021). They are followed by the Balearic Islands (with nearly 8.2 million and an increase of 717.8%) and Andalusia (with almost 7.7 million, 851.1% more).
At a national level, Spain received 6.1 million international tourists in April, multiplying by more than nine the figure for the same month last year (+869.8%), when 629,000 foreign tourists arrived in the country.
The total expenditure made by international tourists who visited Spain in April reached 6,901 million euros, which represents an increase of 932.4% compared to the same month in 2021.
With this new rise in April, the arrival of international tourists and their spending in Spain accumulates eleven consecutive months of year-on-year increases.
The average expenditure per tourist increased by 6.5% year-on-year in April, reaching 1,131 euros, while the average daily expenditure grew by 18.3%, to 155 euros.
The United Kingdom was the main issuing country in April, with 1.2 million tourists and an increase of 5,122.8% compared to April 2021. Germany and France were the next countries with the most tourists who visited Spain. Specifically, Germany contributed 989,807 tourists, six times more than in April 2021, while France contributed 826,193 visitors, seven times more.
During the first four months of the year, international tourist spending has multiplied by more than nine (+840.7%) compared to the same period in 2021, reaching 18,753 million euros. Between January and April, the number of international tourists arriving in Spain approached 15.8 million, 755.8% more than in the first four months of last year.
