The municipal plenary session of Candelaria, held yesterday, debated a modification of the Urban Planning Plan, which aims to protect and preserve the ships of Mr. Sixto Machado acquired by the City Council in 2020, for an amount of 2,270,150 euros.
With this modification, the plot, which until now was for residential use, will be included in the PGOU as community and free spaces, in order to favor the implementation of planned use in the area, which includes a gastronomic market, a auditorium, a packaging interpretation center, some rooms for the primary sector of Candelaria and the Canary Islands and an underground car park.
The mayor, Mari Brito, highlights that “we have been taking steps with modifications to the planning, which are aimed at continuing to build the Candelaria that we want, a living municipality. A clear example of this is this exciting project, with which we will value our rich local heritage and make the town more dynamic, betting on a quality and differentiated offer”, she pointed out.
In this sense, the City Council has commissioned a preliminary feasibility study of the action that includes all the uses that will be given to the plot, which occupies 5,187 square meters, since it includes, in addition to the industrial buildings, the adjacent plots.
There are several significant elements of the project, such as the Gastronomic Market, which will be made up of 13 stalls and areas with tables for diners, which aims to be a gastronomic meeting point; the Interpretation Center of the Primary Sector of the Canary Islands, which will house a museum, while the Packaging Interpretation Center will recreate a workshop from the time, in addition to showing the extraction and pumping motors of the existing well in the place, as well as a tourist information room, an auditorium and underground car parks.
