SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The amplitude of the signal of the volcanic tremor associated with the volcano on the island of La Palma has registered a decrease after the explosive episode of two hours ago, in which a peak of activity was observed, as reported in Itahiza Domínguez, a seismologist of the National Geographic Institute (IGN), who added that we will have to continue observing this event, because “we could be facing a pause but it may be short-lived.”
For his part, the volcanologist Rubén López has also pointed out that the tremor has had an intensification of one hour where a large amount of ash and lava has been emitted that has had an overflow and ejection of pyroclasts on the east slope.
The La Palma volcano, which today celebrates 85 days since it erupted, registered a “sudden and overwhelming” reactivation just an hour ago, with strong explosions that could be heard at a great distance and a huge column of ash rising to high altitudes, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the Canary Islands.
