More than 14,000 tickets sold; the goal of 25,000, closer

The goal proposed by the yellow entity of reaching an influx of 25,000 spectators in this afternoon’s derby (5.15 pm, Movistar Vamos) between UD Las Palmas and CD Tenerife is getting closer and closer. At 5:00 p.m. yesterday the club had already sold 14,041 tickets, so, added to the number of subscribers, which amounts to almost 12,000, the attendance is closer to the marked figure.

The expectation has grown over the days, since the good moment of both teams – Tenerife is fourth and adds three points more than UD, which is two places below – is added the fact that the meeting is in the afternoon.

At the UD they expect a final arreón between this morning and the start time of the clash that brings the influx closer to those 25,000 spectators that President Miguel Ángel Ramírez proposed. If all subscribers turn up, the figure will be exceeded.

It should be noted that 1,500 of those people who will be present at the Gran Canaria Stadium will come from Tenerife and will be located in an area between the South and Curva stands. At first the blue and white entity requested 1,100, but the great response of the chicharrera fans to travel to Gran Canaria to witness the derby forced them to ask for more. In the sectors where they will be located there is space for 1,800 people, however, they will not be completed.

Of the total number of people, who must wear a mask, about 1,500 will cheer on the Blue and Whites

The more than 14,000 tickets sold do not reflect but the desire for a derby that exists on one side and the other of the pond, because a duel of maximum Canarian rivalry with the public has not been played since January 25, 2020, when UD and Tenerife tied at zero and they put on a poor show. Today, better placed in the table and with aspirations for promotion, they are called to propose much more.

In that UD there was Pedri González, but not Jonathan Viera, who was preparing to return to China after a loan of a few months that had ended weeks before. Now the magician from La Feria is once again present as a beacon for Pepe Mel’s team and in search of his first goal against the eternal rival.

Without people

Months after the last derby with an audience, on November 15, 2020 – last season – the first classic was played without an audience in the stands due to the pandemic. It was a historic event that UD won thanks to an own goal from then-Tenerife goalkeeper Adrián Ortolá, who introduced the ball into his goal in an incomprehensible way.

Now, with the world in full regeneration after the hardest ravages of the covid, the public returns to Gran Canaria with the only obligation to wear a mask. Everything indicates that reaching the magic number of 25,000 viewers is possible. All for the derby.
