The technical, human and material assistance that the island of Tenerife provides to La Palma, with more than one hundred people, will be extended as long as necessary, according to the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, who attended La Palma yesterday. the celebration of the Extraordinary Assembly of the Canary Islands Federation (Fecai).
Pedro Martín, who held meetings with members of the Tenerife Firefighters, the Canary Islands Volcanological Institute (Involcan) and the Insular Highway Directorate, appreciated the work they are doing on the island and thanked “their total dedication, which is essential for the population in a a situation as difficult as the one we are experiencing “.
In total, there are more than a hundred people who rotate to provide services on La Palma from different work areas. As for Involcan, the number of troops on La Palma who perform tasks related to volcanic surveillance currently totals 16 people.
Since the seismic swarm that led to the eruptive process began on September 19, the number of troops who have traveled to La Palma to carry out tasks to strengthen volcanic surveillance under the umbrella of Involcan has been 70 people.
For its part, the Insular Directorate of Roads maintains on the island a team of 12 people (six drivers, a team leader, four maintenance workers and a road engineer) who take turns with as many as relief every week.
In addition, three multilift trucks with their corresponding tubs for loading material, three mini-blades with sweepers, a double-cab truck with signaling and hand tools, a high-capacity sweeper-vacuum truck, a pickup-type vehicle with trailer and an all-terrain vehicle to collaborate in the cleaning of ash from the roads and other infrastructures.
As for Tenerife Firefighters, 14 people currently serve on the island: 6 professional firefighters and 6 volunteer firefighters from La Laguna Park plus a technician and an officer. Regarding the material resources, they have 2 heavy urban pumps and two light vehicles.
On the other hand, the island councilor for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina, has also been to La Palma a few days ago to coordinate the collaboration in the transfer to Tenerife and classification of the tons of clothing that have been donated by the population. In addition, the clothes that you want to send to the island and that originate from the island of Tenerife will also be classified in advance.
Likewise, the Insular Director of Security, Rubén Fernández, has set up a coordination device with the town councils of Tenerife to manage the dispatch of volunteers from the island’s Civil Protection groups to carry out tasks of support to the population, accompaniment in irrigation and equipment recovery work.
