ARONA (TENERIFE), 15 (EUROPA PRESS)

The mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes (PP), has this Wednesday terminated the appointments of four councillors from the Más Por Arona political group who were part of her administration. This action is due to what she describes as a “loss of confidence” and a “profound dissatisfaction” with their performance in the council.

“I took on the position of mayor of Arona to manage a challenging team, dedicated to the mission of advancing Arona to the level of development and well-being that our residents deserve,” Lemes stated in a release, expressing regret that at this juncture in the term “these aims are not being achieved.”

She emphasised that “the effectiveness of a team relies on mutual trust”, and therefore, “such conditions are currently lacking in several areas assigned to the council which I oversee,” Lemes remarked regarding her latest decision.

“We came here to serve the well-being of our community, prioritising the collective interest of the municipality over individual interests,” stated the municipal leader.

Furthermore, she confirmed that this decision has been made in agreement with the rest of the administration and stems from the “loss of confidence and profound dissatisfaction” regarding how the responsibilities assigned to the councillors in these areas have been handled thus far.

Additionally, she highlighted the “urgent necessity” to alter the direction of the council, driven by the belief that “no further time can be wasted in transforming Arona into the municipality we deserve.”

Lemes indicated that the announcement of the new appointees will be made shortly, along with a programme of initiatives for each sector, aimed at being developed during the remainder of the term.
