SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The experts who have participated in the conference ‘Post-Covid Mental Health: A political opportunity to act?’ held this week in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have advocated taking advantage of the situation created by the pandemic to make visible and prioritize care for people who suffer from these types of problems.

This has been reported by the organization of the event that was inaugurated by the director of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), Conrado Domínguez, and who has delved into the new challenges that the coronavirus has created in the matter before more than a hundred people who followed him both in person and via streaming.

In this sense, experts such as the former Minister of Health and international advisor in this matter, Rafael Bengoa, or the professor of the Nursing School of the Hospital Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria, Francisco Javier Castro-Molina, have opted to advance before the new challenges in mental health, especially due to the increase in demand for care.

For her part, the president of the Juana Reyes Foundation, Isabel Aguilar, expressed “the importance of the patient in the new strategies in mental health, as well as the concern of civil society in the face of these new challenges.”

“In addition, all the effort of the Day and all the participants when debating about mental health helps to destigmatize,” he declared.

All of them have placed special emphasis on the need to integrate mental health services, bring them closer to Primary Care and thus provide greater continuity of care to patients.
