The Tenerife Migrants Support Assembly issued a statement this Monday in which it criticized the “institutional racism” surrounding the trial of four migrants from Las Raices who are accused of aggression and threats against security guards at the camp.
They also charge against the “brutality” of the four guards who have become complainants in a case that is being tried this Wednesday at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This group denounces the “criminalization” suffered by migrants and demands that “institutional racism” and “parallel trials” cease, and that their presumption of innocence and compliance with human rights be guaranteed.
To shore up the alleged brutality of the guards, the assembly details that the very NGO that manages the center –ACCEM – asked the security company to withdraw this group of guards from the service but ended up transferring them to the Las Canteras camp, as well. In the lagoon.
In addition, they attribute the conflicts in the camps to overcrowding, poor nutrition, a shortage of showers and hot water, poor medical and legal care or “mistreatment” by the police and security companies, who repress the protests, often with arrests and detentions. arbitrary, unjustified charges or racist treatment.
The assembly considers, however, that the 11-year prison sentence requested by the Prosecutor’s Office “is disproportionate” and recalls that along with those affected – in preventive detention without bail – there are another 13 people imprisoned.
