By ML| The Santa Cruz City Council is intensifying maintenance tasks at the Santa Cruz Local Police building to improve the working conditions of municipal agents. Among the actions that are being developed right now, sources from the City Council pointed to those carried out in the file of fines, in which more than 40,000 euros have been invested, and which will continue with new spaces in the offices.

The City Council thus responds to the recent complaint made by the Independent Trade Union and Civil Servants Central (CSIF), whose delegate, Jesús Illada, stated that this building, located at number 79 Avenida Tres de Mayo, does not meet the necessary conditions. so that the police can work, since in recent days, apart from leaks, a broken car wash train or a broken counter, rats have even been seen wandering around the property.

In this regard, sources from the Consistory pointed out that regarding the complaints made by the CSIF, “in the case of the leaks that occurred in the roof, it was already repaired when this problem was detected last winter. With respect to the presence of rats, action has also been taken when the incident has been reported, with a Public Health team, which has gone to the facilities to clean them, and to prepare a report to identify the possible reasons. of the presence of rodents.”

Likewise, the City Council added that “the Heritage area will continue working in the coming months, continuing the work begun, to renovate different areas of the building, with the aim of continuing to improve the work environment.”

“Right now, the future of the police station involves carrying out works in different municipal offices, to accommodate both the operational and administrative staff of the Local Police. Work continues on the definition and drafting of those construction projects that address the definitive solution to the Local Police station,” the City Council explained.

Regarding the new headquarters, the aforementioned sources stated that “work continues on this transfer. In addition to the Urban Planning Management, this operation also includes the General Antequera facilities.”

Explanations

For his part, the CSIF union representative in the Local Police, Jesús Illada, demanded from the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, “explanations as to why we have not yet been transferred to a new police station.” “The City Council has been promising solutions since 2000 for the change of headquarters, and even the current councilor communicated this in person last March, announcing 12 million euros for the construction of a two-story building in the Ofra neighborhood,” he said. he.

However, “in the meeting held with the councilor for the security area Gladys de León on October 4, she told us about the unions present that she will not have moved to another building in the medium term,” Illada pointed out.

In this regard, the police officer stressed that “while the falsehoods continue, the police station continues to have rats, water leaks, lack of security and unhealthy conditions for 400 people who work in the building.”

Without human and material resources for agents

The union representative of the CSIF in the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Jesús Illada, has denounced “the significant deterioration suffered by the motorcycle park that is owned by the City Council, since, despite the fact that the rental of vehicles has solved the problem of the lack of patrol cars, the issue of motorcycles continues to be worrying.” He added that to this situation “is added the lack of maintenance officers (operators), since there are currently three vacant positions, as the calls for positions have been slowed down for two years, so due to the population ratio there should be 482 agents, compared to to the current 337.”
