SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The acting Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Javier Parrilla, and the president of the State Society for Agrarian Infrastructures (SEIASA), Francisco Rodríguez Mulero, have met to set up the monitoring commissions for the two formalized agreements last May to deal with irrigation modernization works in the south of the island.

Also participating in the meeting were the manager of Balsas de Tenerife (Balten), Ana Sánchez Espadas; the deputy director of Projects and Services of SEIASA, Javier Mayor de Pablo; the person in charge of Relations with the Irrigation Communities of SEIASA, Victoria Fernández Salinero and the legal person in charge of Balten, Elena Méndez Pérez.

Through these agreements, which have a global budget of more than 18 million euros, it is intended to promote reclaimed water in more than 1,000 hectares in the south of the island.

To this end, two projects are being considered: the construction of a pond in Guía de Isora and the implementation of a reclaimed water distribution network in the municipalities of Adeje, Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide.

Both projects will be 80 percent financed by SEIASA (14.4 million euros), charged to funds received through the European Union Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, and 20 percent by the Island Corporation ( 3.6 million).

The forecast is that the works will begin between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 and will have an execution period of 36 months, collects a note from the Cabildo.

In total, the Canary Islands will receive 65.46 million euros for irrigation modernization actions charged to the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain.
