SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, the second deputy of the Common Council, Milagros Fuentes, and the advisor Javier Brito have met with representatives of the ‘Cumbre Vieja’ Volcano Social Association, who denounced their lack of participation in decision-making of the Public Administration for the reconstruction of the areas affected by the eruption of the La Palma volcano.
They reported on the situation in which the affected people find themselves and expressed their discomfort at not being able to participate in the decisions that are being made to solve the effects created by the volcano. “Since the volcano exploded, we have not been counted on. We have contacted different administrations and entities to be able to participate in decision-making, but we obtain absolute silence on their part,” they denounced.
Likewise, they criticized the change in the economic model that is intended to be carried out on the Island with the construction of large roads, which are committed to tourism. “A tourism model is being imposed on us. The population has a lot to say in this regard, but they are not being listened to. Once again they are not being taken into account,” said those affected.
In this sense, they assured that the administrations are taking refuge in the emergency to be able to carry out this change of model, “and what they are doing is taking refuge in our own misfortune,” they added.
For his part, the Common Deputy stressed that the first thing they are going to do is contact the competent administrations to find out the reason why they have not yet responded to the collective’s requests. “We will study and work on the various complaints filed today by those affected,” Yanes said.
