The best rural postman in Spain is José Castilla Darias, a resident registered in Radazul, in El Rosario, and who carries out his professional work serving the towns of Lomo Pelado and Las Rosas in this municipality. José Castilla is known to the whole world of Tenerife Carnival, as he presided over two stages, for 34 years, of the Triqui-Traques murga, which he abandoned in 2019.
The title of best rural postman in Spain was recently awarded to him by the State Post Office and Telegraph Society from among the nearly 6,000 rural postmen and wallets throughout the national territory. For this reason, the mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, received him yesterday in the company of the first deputy mayor, Fátima Gutiérrez. “We are proud to have the best rural postman in Spain in El Rosario, which demonstrates the good service provided at the two post offices in the municipality, the one in La Esperanza, but also the one in Radazul,” said the mayor.
In addition, Escolástico Gil highlighted that “from the City Council we have always opted for the public postal service, both for sending certificates, notifications, tax information or any type of communication with our neighbors.” The local interest in the correct development of the activity of the Post Office in the municipality is also shown by the motion that the mayor Fátima Gutiérrez will defend in the next plenary session to support the service provided by the Radazul office due to the punctual lack of personnel.
José Castilla, who has been at Correos for 12 years, highlighted that his work has turned it into a “mobile post office that makes life easier for people in rural areas, many of them older, for all kinds of things, from collecting the receipts of the water or electricity to facilitate negotiations with banks.
The rural postal service, in addition to sending letters, allows the management of other operations, such as the sale of packaging and stamps, the delivery of parcels or the collection of receipts, among others.
