Tenerife’s Gastronomy Blends Tradition and Innovation
Tenerife’s gastronomy continues to showcase its ability to preserve tradition while embracing innovation. Located in the northern part of the island, specifically in the municipality of Santa Úrsula, a long-standing tavern has attracted attention with an unusual offering in Canarian cuisine: stuffed chops, a dish that breaks with convention without losing the essence of local recipes.
The establishment is Bodegón Casa Juan, a family-run venue recently visited by the culinary content creators @guachinchesmodernos. They are known for exploring restaurants and taverns across the archipelago to highlight proposals linked to local produce and tradition. Their experience has spotlighted a menu that celebrates traditional cuisine, but with personal touches that set it apart.
A Traditional Tavern in Northern Tenerife
Bodegón Casa Juan retains the essence of Tenerife’s establishments, being a beloved local corner. Wine and grilled meats take centre stage on the menu, with the restaurant producing its own wines, perfect for pairing with their grilled meats.
Among the house specialities is black pig (11.90 €), a perfect dish to accompany with a good house wine. The venue embodies a philosophy of: local produce, tradition, and authentic flavour.
Classic Dishes with a Unique Twist
One of the most surprising dishes is the stuffed chop, an unusual offering that has become one of the tavern’s signature dishes, available only on Thursdays and Fridays. In addition, the couple also ordered chickpeas with ribs (12.90 €), XXL mushrooms (7.50 €), and stuffed scallop (8.90 €).
They concluded their meal with the popular dessert Maltesers (3.99 €), a delightful end to an exquisite meal marked by generous portions, innovation, and quality. The establishment is noted for its chef Vanesa, who aims to distinguish herself from competitors by offering unique creations with personal touches.
The tavern maintains the essence of Canarian cuisine, introducing personal touches and innovative techniques that set it apart. Each dish is crafted to detail, providing a unique culinary experience.
