Cabildo to Launch New Coastal Programme for Tenerife (2026-2030)
The Cabildo will promote coastal initiatives during the 2026-2030 period through the new Insular Programme Tenerife and the Sea, approved by the Government Council. This initiative, funded with 9.6 million euros, aims to enhance the tourism product linked to the coast, improve accessibility, and manage spaces of great environmental and social value, with interventions across various municipalities.
Key Initiatives
Among the notable projects is the refurbishment of San Marcos Beach and El Caletón in Garachico, two significant spots in the northern region of the island known for their appeal to both residents and visitors. In Puerto de la Cruz, the development of the Coastal Park of Punta Brava and the enhancement of the Martiánez promenade are planned, aiming to renew strategic spaces for public enjoyment and tourism activity.
Accessibility Improvements
The project also includes upgrading access to Los Patos Beach in La Orotava, a key initiative to manage entry to one of the most unique beaches in northern Tenerife. In Tacoronte, the plan encompasses the management of the coastal fronts in El Pris and La Barranquera, areas of significant public use where local activity is to be balanced with environmental conservation.
Interventions in Santa Cruz
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the interventions will focus on improving access to Las Gaviotas and Valleseco, two coastal points in the capital with notable recreational potential. In the south, the renovation of the wooden walkway at El Médano and Los Abrigos in Granadilla de Abona is advanced, aimed at enhancing pedestrian mobility and the quality of public space in one of the most visited coastal areas of the island.
Additionally, the programme includes works on rock pools, paths, promenades, and bathing areas in municipalities such as Adeje, Arico, Arona, Guía de Isora, and Santiago del Teide, among others.
Commitment to Sustainability
The Vice President and Tourism Minister, Lope Afonso, explains that the goal is to “promote territorial balance, improve accessibility, and ensure responsible use of our coastline,” integrating environmental protection with local economic development.
With Tenerife and the Sea, the Cabildo strengthens its commitment to a sustainable, diverse, and environmentally respectful tourism model, establishing the coastline as one of the island’s main assets and a space for coexistence among residents, visitors, and nature, as stated by Lope Afonso.
