Canary Islands Universities Announce High Success Rates in University Entrance Exams

Over 8,200 Students Pass the PAU in the Canary Islands with Success Rates Exceeding 89% in Both Provinces

The two public universities in the Canary Islands have revealed the results of the ordinary June session of the University Entrance Exam (PAU), showcasing a high pass rate across the archipelago. In total, over 8,200 students have successfully passed the exams in the provinces of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

ULPGC and ULL Exam Results

In the province of Las Palmas, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) recorded a pass rate of 91.6% in the general phase of the PAU. Of the 4,590 students who sat the exams, 4,203 received a passing grade. By gender, 91.7% of female candidates (2,431) and 91.3% of male candidates (1,772) passed.

Meanwhile, the University of La Laguna (ULL), which organised the exams in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, reported that 89.17% of the candidates passed. Out of 4,583 registered students, 4,060 were deemed suitable, while 493 did not pass and 30 did not attend.

Science and Technology Lead the Results

In both provinces, the Science and Technology stream achieved the highest results. At ULPGC, 95.3% of the 2,362 students presented passed the exams. ULL also reported strong results, with a pass rate of 92.49%.

Moreover, the Arts stream, specifically in Music and Performing Arts, excelled, achieving a pass rate of 95.4% in Las Palmas and 96.05% in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, pass rates were 87.6% at ULPGC and 85.42% at ULL. In Visual Arts, Image, and Design, success rates were 87.7% and 85.98%, respectively.

Variances by Location

Within ULPGC, the highest pass rate was observed at the southern Gran Canaria campus, with a pass rate of 93.1%. This was followed by Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (92.4%), Lanzarote (91.9%), northern Gran Canaria (91.8%), southern Fuerteventura (90.2%), northern Fuerteventura (89.8%), and Telde (87.7%).

In the province of Tenerife, the majority of examining students were concentrated in Tenerife, which had 3,663 candidates and a pass rate of 89.3%. The best percentage came from El Hierro, where 94.8% of students passed. La Palma recorded 87.02% and La Gomera 86.6%.

Publication of Results and Upcoming Deadlines

Students in both provinces can now access their results. At ULPGC, grades are available through the university access portal and will also be sent to students via email. Students can submit requests for review between 15th and 17th June, with final results being published on 19th June.

At ULL, the process for pre-enrolment in undergraduate programmes for the 2026/27 academic year is now open and will remain active until 2nd July. Students who did not pass the ordinary session will have another opportunity in the extraordinary session scheduled for 30th June, and 1st and 2nd July.

Acknowledging Academic Excellence

Both universities have decided to recognise students with outstanding results. ULPGC hosted an event this Friday for the 16 top-performing students from its campuses in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. Among them, 11 are female and 5 male, with most hailing from public institutions.

Additionally, ULL will hold an institutional event on 15th June to honour the 30 students who achieved the highest grades for university access in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, acknowledging their academic excellence.
