MADRID / SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands are expected to experience predominantly slightly overcast skies this Monday, which will transition to cloudy conditions in the westernmost islands by the afternoon, with light rainfall possible. In La Palma, this could potentially be locally moderate and persistent, particularly on the western slopes, as indicated by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Temperatures will remain relatively stable, while the wind, initially light and variable in the early morning, will strengthen to a moderate breeze from the southwest by midday, with gusts potentially reaching strong levels in the northwestern and southeastern areas of the mountainous islands.
There is a possibility of very strong gusts in the far southeast of Tenerife during the peak hours and on high peaks later in the day.
STORM GAROE
Across the rest of Spain, the arrival of Storm Garoe this Monday will lead to predominantly cloudy or overcast conditions in the Peninsula, with rainfall affecting most regions, particularly abundant in the southwestern quadrant, and substantial accumulations likely in parts of Extremadura and western Andalusia.
Furthermore, this front is expected to cause snowfall in the northern mountains, as well as in areas of the Northern Plateau and the Central System, with significant accumulations anticipated in the extreme north of Castilla y León, the Iberian System, the eastern Central System, as well as areas in Navarra and the western Pyrenees, according to the forecasts by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Consequently, a yellow warning has been issued for snowfall in the Community of Madrid, La Rioja, Castilla y León, and Castilla-La Mancha. The snow level is expected to be around 700/1,000 m, descending to 500/600 m in the northeast, rising to 1,200 m in the Pyrenees and 2,000 m across the remainder of the territory.
On this Monday, maximum temperatures will rise in the archipelagos and at the eastern and western extremes of the peninsula, while decreases will be more common elsewhere. Minimum temperatures are generally expected to rise, except in the Balearic Islands and Catalonia, where a decrease is forecast; notable increases will be evident in regions of the western half.
In the Balearic Islands, there will be cloudy intervals, with the possibility of sporadic rainfall.
Winds from the south and west will prevail in the Mediterranean, with a likely shift to the east in Alborán, and from the south across the rest of the Peninsula. Strong gusts are anticipated along the coasts of western Galicia and the Gulf of Cádiz.
